So. New Year.
Orchestra rehearsals begin on Saturday, and our annual residential music-making weekend is in the end of February. I’ve gone up a level in orchestra, which means I’m only first desk for one ensemble – fine by me. Nothing like having every bowing screw-up amplified by eight people behind me… especially if you’re hungover and maybe not concentrating completely on the task at hand.
Strangely, tenor clef as become quite easy to read, all of a sudden. The piece I’m working on, though, is completely in tenor clef and doesn’t go very high, only up to the F sharp on the A string. I think switching between the two in mid-phrase will be a bit challenging. It still looks completely alien to me to have clefs in the middle of a stave.
