Sight-reading to the extreme

23 Nov

I've mentioned The Bays and Heritage Orchestra's project of live improv orchestralish dance music before, but last night I saw it live in Royal Festival Hall and it was something to behold. The hall was full and for the last half an hour people were jumping out of their seats spontaneously and dancing everywhere. Sure there were a couple segments where it dragged a bit, but it was 90 minutes of on-the-fly composing, I think we all forgave them. The last 40 minutes was pure bliss, and at the end the entire hall, we're talking 2300 people, jumped to their feet shouting and clapping. It was the most heartfelt standing ovation I've ever witnessed.

Needless to say, if it comes anywhere near you, make sure you're there.
